Michael Snow

On April 26, 2007, the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art presented internationally renowned Toronto-based artist Michael Snow as the first recipient of the MOCCA Award in Contemporary Art. Mr. Snow was presented with this award during a very special gala evening honouring a lifetime of groundbreaking artistic achievement.

The MOCCA Award Gala was structured around an installation of Snow’s work highlighting significant accomplishments and artworks from Mr. Snow’s extensive artistic career. As patrons arrived at the gallery, they were greeted with refreshments and hors d’oeuvres, allowing them the opportunity to socialize and walk amid the installation.

Noted Snow scholar Martha Langford then presented a brief discussion around Snow’s œuvre. Food was orchestrated around the staging of the installations and was designed by Susur Lee. At the conclusion of the performances, the MOCCA Award was presented to Snow.

Each patron who attended the Gala evening received a limited-edition artwork-plate specially designed for the occasion by Michael Snow. In addition, each guest received a copy of the MOCCA publication on Snow containing an essay by Langford.
