FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art Announces FREE ADMISSION!
TORONTO, Ontario, August 23, 2013 – The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA) is pleased to announce the introduction of FREE ADMISSION to its galleries thanks to a $25,000 donation from the RBC Foundation. As new partners in this capacity, MOCCA and the RBC Foundation have a shared commitment to providing access to unique cultural experiences and meaningful learning opportunities to all members of the community.
MOCCA will launch the RBC FREE ADMISSION program beginning with access to its thought-provoking Fall 2013 season. Starting September 5, visitors to MOCCA will enjoy free admission to six new TIFF-commissioned works by renowned Canadian and international artists in David Cronenberg: Transformation, as well as to the North-American debut of Camille Henrot’s acclaimed video installation Gross Fatigue, as part of TIFF Future Projections. In addition, MOCCA is presenting visitors with the opportunity to engage in a series of public events and activities, including a David Cronenberg-inspired book club and exclusive talks by exhibiting artists.
“An expanded access program anchored by free admission reflects MOCCA’s ongoing efforts to increase our reach to diverse audiences,” says MOCCA Managing Director Yves Théoret. “We are proud to partner with the RBC Foundation to provide free admission to our visitors and to all members of the community.”
A hub for cultural production and creative exchange, MOCCA established itself in Toronto’s dynamic West Queen West district almost 10 years ago. Since then, MOCCA has strived to welcome and encourage a diverse audience, and to position the museum as a beacon in the community. This latest initiative enables MOCCA to broaden its reach, into the community and beyond, to strengthen the impact of visual arts.
“We are thrilled to support the great work of MOCCA and their leadership in promoting art in an accessible way,” said Susan Stauth, RBC’s Regional Vice President in Toronto. “RBC has a longstanding commitment to the arts, in particular emerging artists, and we are happy that more community members can now enjoy this creative hub for free.”
