Courtyard Mural
MOCCA is pleased to present the latest in our ongoing series of murals on the east wall of our courtyard. Mon Petit Chou, (Lego Haircuts), by Toronto artist Pascal Paquette, can be considered a trans-media hybrid image that blends vocabularies related to abstract painting, graffiti and cartoon animation to create a wholly original image that points to the similarities and relationships between disciplines that are rarely imagined to be related. Mon Petit Chou (Lego Haircuts) is from the series, What I’ve Learned in the Last Five Years. Based mostly on abstract art, this new series gathers the stylistic elements that are familiar and central to my art practice since the very beginning. This time though, these elements assume their position as main players integral to the stories illustrated. Where in the past I would transfer through painting a snapshot of a predetermined event I now let the stories unfold through the exercise of layering. What this yields is a vivacious world rich in movement and deep in content.
About the Artist Pascal Paquette, is a visual artist based in Toronto, Canada. His work focuses on the transformation of culture that occurs when two or more economic, social or cultural realities collide. He works mostly in painting, but also in photography and site-specific installation. He is a graduate of the Graphic Arts program at La Cité Collégiale in Ottawa, Canada.
