Painting with Food

This workshop explores different ways to create art using sustainable and natural materials. Artist Maria Queiroga will show participants how to use foods like beet juice and hibiscus tea to create safe and chemical-free inks.  You will have a chance to make beautiful, abstract paintings using natural ink on paper.

About Maria Queiroga

Brazilian-born Maria Queiroga is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist working with painting, photography and installation. Her work is mostly focused on themes of memories and self-consciousness. Currently and in parallel with her artistic practice, she works at the MOCA as part of the Visitor Experience team.

Don’t forget to check out The Life of a Dead Tree by Mark Dion, during its last weekend at the museum. You can observe and participate in a kind-of autopsy of the tree that will unfold over the course of the exhibition. This shared investigation will remove, preserve and document all the various life forms the tree continues to support. Most importantly, the project will act as a site for conversations around specific pernicious, invasive insects threatening North American forests, such as the Emerald Ash Borer and Elm Bark Beetle.
