Position Summary

MOCA  is working with Michael Lin, a leading contemporary painter and conceptual artist, on a site-specific spatial painting for the museum’s entrance floor. The patterned surfaces that compose Lin’s work are often painted with local emerging artists. Given current travel restrictions, this installation will be produced entirely in Toronto in virtual dialogue with Lin and his studio.

We are looking for emerging artists to be involved in this performative mural painting project. Applicants should be recent graduates or emerging artists who are proficient in painting with Chinese brushes and precise line work, preferably with some experience in collaborative, large-scale mural projects or commercial painting. The work will take place during the museum’s open hours, so you need to be comfortable painting publicly and sometimes engaging in conversation with visitors.

Interested artists must be available to participate consistently during scheduled days (weekdays and weekends), from October 1–November 1, 2020. This mentorship opportunity includes access to MOCA staff, an artist membership and an honorarium.
