CRONENBERG AT MOCCA – PART TWO
TORONTO, Ontario, October 29, 2013 – The Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA) is pleased to announce the opening of David Cronenberg: Through the Eye, a presentation of our award-winningNational Gallery of Canada at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art program. Curated by the acclaimed filmmaker David Cronenberg and with the collaboration of TIFF, the exhibition features works from the National Gallery’s Contemporary collections by Louise Bourgeois, Alex Colville, John Massey, Mark Prent, and John Scott. The exhibition also includes works from David Cronenberg’s personal collection by Charles Burns and William S. Burroughs and a special private loan of a work by Andy Warhol. To celebrate the launch of Through the Eye, please join us for the public reception at MOCCA on Saturday, November 2, from 2 – 5 pm. The exhibition will be on view until December 29, 2013.
David Cronenberg: Through the Eye is organized by MOCCA and the National Gallery of Canada in association with TIFF and is supported by THE ART DEPT., AXA Art, Cineplex Media, The Ouellette Family Foundation, World Mastercard, the Government of Ontario, the Canada Council for the Arts, and the Hal Jackman Foundation.
In the MOCCA Main Space David Cronenberg: Transformation, the visual art component of TIFF’s multi-platform celebration The Cronenberg Project (November 1 to January 19, 2014), continues until December 29. The exhibition features six new TIFF-commissioned artworks from leading Canadian and international contemporary artists who share Cronenberg’s inspirations from literature and philosophy—writers such as McLuhan, Burroughs and Ballard—and his fascination with biological horror, the human psyche and the merging of humans and media. Artists featured are Candice Breitz, James Coupe, Marcel Dzama, Jeremy Shaw, Jamie Shovlin, and Laurel Woodcock. David Cronenberg: Transformation is co-curated by David Liss, Artistic Director & Curator, MOCCA, and Noah Cowan, Artistic Director, TIFF Bell Lightbox, and is presented and organized in partnership with TIFF with support from the Government of Ontario, the Canada Council for the Arts, and the Hal Jackman Foundation.
