Art Toronto, Canada’s esteemed international modern and contemporary art fair is delighted to announce that Montréal-based artist Valérie Blass will produce Ne regarde pas II, 2014, a limited edition digital print on matte paper, to benefit programming initiatives at the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art (MOCCA). In 2009, MOCCA presented Blass’s first solo exhibition in Toronto, Une fois de trop (One time too many). This is the sixth year Art Toronto and MOCCA have commissioned an artist to produce the Art Toronto MOCCA Benefit Edition, a fundraiser for MOCCA. Ne regarde pas II will be available for purchase on-site for $1,800 CDN at Art Toronto 2014. About the Artist
Valérie Blass holds an MFA in visual and media arts from Université du Québec à Montréal. She has been the subject of solo institutional exhibitions in Montréal, Québec City, Toronto and Calgary. In 2012, Blass was commissioned by Public Art Fund New York for a yearlong group exhibition at the MetroTech Center and was selected to participate in the major survey exhibition, Oh, Canada – Contemporary Art From North North America at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art. In 2013, Blass’ work was included alongside such artists as Abbas Akhavan, Nick Relph and LaToya Ruby Fraser in the exhibition Traces of Life in Berlin, Germany. The work of Valérie Blass was recently presented in parallel to the Istanbul Biennale at the Art International Istanbul fair, in a group exhibition curated by Geoffrey Farmer at the Art Gallery of Alberta and in a solo exhibition presented by Parisian Laundry Projects at The Hole in New York City’s Lower East Side. Blass’ work is found in the collections of The National Gallery of Canada, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, the Musée national des beaux arts du Québec, The Royal Bank of Canada, the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec and innumerable corporate and private collections throughout Canada, the United States and Europe. Valérie Blass was the recipient of the prestigious Martyn-Lynch-Staunton award, multiple awards from the Gala of the visual arts organized by the Association of Contemporary Art Galleries and the Prix-Louis-Comtois from the City of Montréal.

Valérie Blass détient une maîtrise en arts visuels et médiatiques de l’Université du Québec à Montréal. Depuis plus de dix ans, son travail a été présenté dans des expositions solos à Montréal, Québec, Toronto et Calgary. En 2012, Blass reçoit une commande du Public Art Fund de New York pour un projet au Metrotech Centre, et, en parallèle, elle participe à l’exposition majeure Oh, Canada – Contemporary Art from North North Americaau MASS MoCA. Au cours de l’année 2013, à Berlin, elle a fait partie de l’exposition collective Traces of Life aux côtés des œuvres d’artistes tels qu’Abbas Akhavan, Nick Relph et LaToya Ruby Fraser. L’artiste était récemment présentée à la foire Art International Istanbul en parallèle à la Biennale d’Istanbul et dans une exposition de groupe organisée par Geoffrey Farmer à l’Art Gallery of Alberta. L’année 2013 a été l’objet de nombreux projets et s’est achevée par un premier solo new-yorkais sous l’enseigne de Parisian Laundry Projets @ The Hole NYC. Des œuvres de Blass se retrouvent dans de nombreuses collections : Musée national des beaux-arts du Canada, Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal, Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal, Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, Ville de Montréal, Banque Royale du Canada, Banque Nationale, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec ainsi que dans maintes collections corporatives et privées à travers le Canada, les États-Unis et l’Europe. Entre autres, l’artiste s’est méritée le Prix Victor-Martyn-Lynch-Staunton, des prix au Gala des arts visuels de l’AGAC et le Prix Louis-Comtois de la Ville de Montréal.

Since 2009, Art Toronto and the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art have collaborated on the commission of a benefit edition by a Canadian artist. Each year the limited edition work is made available for sale exclusively at Art Toronto, and has included both emerging and established artists.
